Schlumpy...

We are almost sixty five days into Travis' turnaround schedule.  He's beyond tired, and honestly I am too.  He describes it as Groundhog Day, and I see it more like Mr. Mom.   I'm doing all the parenting jobs, household jobs, homeschooling jobs, and everything inbetween.  Forget a push present for having four kids- there should be a TAR present.  We are hoping that the schedule only goes until mid November and then he can return to his normal shift schedule.  Fingers crossed.

I'm trying to get into decorating, projects and such, but honestly?  I'm just feeling schlumpy.  I wake up and unload the dishwasher, feed/walk dogs, help Sara with her hair, check email, work with Hunter, go to the grocery store, fold and put away towels, do laundry, clean house, cook twice a day, and teach class on Thursdays.  The thought of doing a project just makes me want to take a nap.

I see people on Pinterest and blogs and they are busy creating wreaths,  glittering pine cones, writing books, and building stuff.  I just don't have it in me right now, and instead of telling myself that it's okay, I find myself feeling less than adequate like I don't measure up, and that really makes me want to take a nap.

There's a lot of pressure we put on ourselves as wives, moms, bloggers- creative types.  That somehow we should always be producing something, but the older I get the more I realize that it's okay to have periods where you just don't.  (at least that is what I'm telling myself!)   I know that once this crazy schedule is over I will get my mojo back.

I hope...

  1. I was just thinking about this the other day-how I get schlumpy and then compound the problem by focusing on everyone else's energy and creativity. It is what it is. Some days are I"m filled with zing and others, zilch. Thanks for sharing-hope the schlump goes away soon!

  2. You have never had a chance to bounce back from the move and remodeling. It's hard to be the main parent all the time. I hope that your husband's hours change back, so you both can rest up.

  4. Good grief girl. Give yourself a break. Moving, remodeling, moving again, homeschooling, being both parents (even temporarily) - what do you expect of yourself. Anyone who would even think you needed to be creating, etc. is not worth worrying about. If you think all that making wreaths, glittering pinecones, arranging tablescapes is that important then don't you wonder why you see so much of that "stuff" at Goodwill, Salvation Army, garage sales, etc. Enjoy your life!! If you feel like creating, then do it. If you feel like a nap, take a nap!!

  5. You are "only" being a wife, mom, teacher, housekeeper, laundress, cook, dog walker, household manager, and I imagine taxi cab driver too - don't be so hard on yourself, Trisha, and definitely don't compare yourself to others. You are where you need to be right now doing what is important for your family! Creativity will come when life is a little less demanding. I think we all go through the schlumps (love that word), I know I sure do!

  7. Tis the season to be kind to yourself! Life happens and you don't need the additional pressure of trying to be Wonder Woman. Take a deep breath, all of your readers will be here when you can get back to your regular, crazy busy schedule. :-)

  8. Listen to Guilty Nana and Karen. You are creating every day. Your creating a healthy, joyous, comforting home for your Family. Your guiding your childern and your students to their lives as adults and individuals. More stuff doesn't make the home. That is what you are supposed to be doing at this moment. When you are supposed to be doing something else, He'll let you know.

    1. Couldn't help laughing at being called Guilty Nana, so I went in and changed that small q to a capital one, so my name now reads Quilty Nana. :)
