Tiny Tudor exterior...

The front of our tiny tudor started out looking a bit tired and sad.  It just wasn't living up to it's potential, and I knew that a few key changes would give it some positive curb appeal...

I was not a fan of the blue- that was the first thing we changed.  I chose Sherwin Williams in Pussywillow for the trim and White Duck for the body of the house.  It's really more of a gray, but looks a bit greenish in this IG photo...

The lights are from Lowes and are Allen & Roth...

The front needed to have only one light on the left to balance out the door a bit better.  The shutters I was planning would cover up the hole that the light on the right would leave behind.  Travis built the shutters the same way he did for our last house.  I love the simple design of them...

These were the original aluminum windows...

The old front door was not very well suited for the style of the house, and I wanted something that let in more light.  We went with a four glass window door in a dark walnut stain with ORB handles- plain Jane, nothing fancy.

The house numbers are from Ramsign and the mailbox is from Pottery Barn...
Door bell is from Restoration Hardware...

We also were faced with having to replace all of the front windows.  The old ones were the original crank out windows, and while they were charming, they were doing nothing to hold out the Texas heat.  We opted for Pella crank windows and had them installed by Lowes.  (later post on that, but I wouldn't recommend them installing anything again!)

The front also got new landscaping and a redo of the front stoop with some flagstone.  We still need to do some paint touch ups around those windows, but I am calling the exterior "finished"...

Now the Tiny Tudor stands proud!

  1. I think it looks great! I notice the old windows had mullions. Was there any particular thought process behind choosing new windows without them? (energy efficiency, looks, light, I have no idea, just throwing things out there)

    1. Love that you asked! Actually yes, there was some thought behind it. I wanted a cleaner modern look and I think going without them simplified the exterior a bit.

  2. Love it!! My first thought was that I liked the old mailbox but when you showed the new one it's a definite win! You have such great taste inside and out.

    1. Funny story on the mailbox- Travis hated the first one. It was too small for catalogs and larger mail, so the bigger one won out. I agree, it looks better!

  3. What a huge difference! I love your new front door! Nothing about it said plain jane to me! I love the new lighting, paint color and shutters! If I was your neighbor I would be so thrilled- or maybe I would think I need to redo the outside of my house too! Great job! Your attention to detail is what makes your house a home!

  6. I'm having so much fun watching you make your new home. It's beautiful! My question is about your shutters....what kind of wood did you guys use? I think I want to make ours, but I'm just curious what you used. Thanks so much! Lajuanna

    1. We used treated oak and gave them a good coat of Kilz along with three coats of exterior paint. So easy to make and the look is custom!

  7. Do you have an HOA or anything where you had to get permission to do anything to the exterior of the home? I love what you did to it and I'm sure your neighbors are loving the updates too!

    1. We do have an HOA, and I got verbal permission from the head of the architecture committee (who lives in our courtyard) to do the improvements. Anything we did was an improvement on what was there! The cool thing is that it is sparking others to do some improvements of their own :)
