Home away from home...

I was contacted by the lovely folks over at DogVacay.com to write about a place that is our home away from home...

Travis and I are huge fans of getting away from it all.  We have never really taken extravagant vacations to exotic destinations, because really, that wouldn't feel like "us".   We are a little more laid back and since we are usually in bed by 9:00 pm, we have found that sleepy little Texas towns are more our speed.

Little Texas towns like Gruene.  Gruene, Texas is located just outside of New Braunfels in the Texas hill country.  It's also home to the oldest dance hall in Texas...

Along with fabulous little shops for antiques, there are some yummy spots to enjoy a delicious meal.  The patio out at Gristmill is our fav...

We live such hustle and bustle lives- it's nice to slow down once in a while and take in our surroundings.  Gruene, Texas is our favourite place to do just that.

  2. Just found your blog thru Brenda's Cozy Little House and am so glad I clicked over. We are a military family who were stationed in SA for five years and Gruene is one of my favorite places. We lived in Schertz, so it was a quick trip for us to pop up there. Looking forward to following your adventures as you make your new house your own ... Congrats!

  3. We ADORE Gruene!! We live just up the road, literally, in San Marcos! We love to take Country Road HUNTER, which is a block from our front door, all the way through the winding bends out to Gruene. Great dining, shopping, and of course the DANCE HALL! Great memories growing up here! I am a blog stalker and haven't taken the PLUNGE, but LOVE LOVE LOVE visiting yours and your sweet story you share with us all!
    xoxo

  5. The Gristmill is one of my favorite restaurants. We used to live nearby in Bulverde. My husband is from San Antonio. We now live in Chattanooga, TN.
