I am constantly trying to find ways to make our "new" home look "old". I love vintage hardware and am especially fond of door plates & glass doorknobs. I found both while out yesterday in Houston. Travis found some bolts that would work to secure the knobs to the doors. Since the doors are pull doors we didn't have to worry about actual working knobs, although if I could we would have these on all our doors!
My mom was telling me about how excited my Grandma Gross was when she had all of her doorknobs replaced and was able to toss all of the glass knobs in the trash. Sorry Grandma, no offense, but you were crazy to let these go...

I like glass doorknobs too. Or the black ceramic looking ones are pretty cool also! I have some of my doorknobs just laying in a bowl. I will have to start actually using them!
ReplyDeletePam- Yes! Pull those beauties out and put them up! These worked well since the door has "dummy" pulls. I wish I could find working knobs for all the doors.
ReplyDeleteAwesome knobs! :)
ReplyDeleteTotally gorgeous. I have glass dummy knobs on our front closet doors. I bought them new (retail crap) when we renovated but I wish I had thought ahead and tried to find some vintage ones.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rhonda : o )
ReplyDeleteCharlene- If you are close to Houston, I found these at Adkins architectural antiques. They had TONS of them!
Why didn't you buy an old house?
ReplyDeleteJoe- We talked about it, but we didn't want the major repairs- just fun fluff stuff : o )
ReplyDeleteI love the door knobs....I need something like that here in this house. I'm glad to see you still have a blog. I was going over my old blog and saw one of the comments you left me before. My old blog was http://imtryingtohide.blogspot.com/ I have a new one now www.bareitallfitness.com if you want to check it out. Now that I have found you again I will be adding you to my google reader!
ReplyDeleteLove the old knobs...glad you can actually use them in your home. I have a bit of a collection of them myself :) Laurel@chippingwithcharm
ReplyDeleteDawn- So good to "see" you again! New home, new life, new blog ; o )
ReplyDeleteLaurel- Love these things! It was like looking through an old jewelry box since each one was slightly different in design. I will be going back for more!
Great knobs! I am glad I found you at a blog party and am enjoying exploring your site. I hope you will stop by my HomeMade Monday blog party at HomeSavvyAtoZ.com next week to share! I am your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteErin- Thank you so much for stopping by & following! I will be sure to pop over to see you too : o )
ReplyDeleteI too have been looking for vintage hardware for my doors. These glass doorknobs have added so much character to your room! Great job! :)
ReplyDelete~ Your newest follower
Thank you Melissa! I think it adds a bit of character too ; O )
ReplyDeleteHa! Just let me, Jethro and the girls move in for a week. It'll look old in no time.
ReplyDeleteBut when I think of all the actually old houses I've lived in and the gorgeous doorknobs and tiles and things we got rid to "update" them, of I could cry.
Zelda- Hey girl!! So good to see you : o ) Yes, super sad when those things get tossed...
ReplyDeleteI don't know how it is, but your "old" touches look so chic and new and my "new" house looks old and cluttered. (sigh)
ReplyDeleteJammie- I'm sure it doesn't, you just look at it everyday. I feel the same way about my own house at times- I look around and just see clutter! Besides, you are going to have a little somebody cluttering up the place pretty good in a few months ; o )
