Smaller, but bigger things...

Sorry for the lack of posting lately.  So many things are happening around here, and I have been stretched a bit thin.   Throw a severe sinus infection into the mix, and well, it's been a week of unmotivated snottiness.

Since the photo shoot Travis and I have been having lots of discussions about life, direction, wants, needs and dreams.  I love that about him- he listens to my dreams and nods and says, "Yeah" when I go on and on about this, that, or the other thing.  Patience and listening are his strong suits.  Yammering on is one of mine.  We are well matched.

During those talks we have both expressed a desire live simpler and to travel more.  To get out and to experience things, not just work on a house or pay to live where we overlook a pond.  This house is lovely and we have put so much into it, but we really feel that it is time to move on.  Or in our case, down-size.

So...

We are listing the little cottage on Monday!   Yep.  As in selling it and moving.   To a smaller place.  A less expensive overhead kind of place.  We are trading a cottage on a pond for a small townhouse on an English style courtyard.  From 2200 square feet to 1500 square feet.  Oh, and the new tiny kitchen is 12 x 9.  We have plans to do a gut job on it and completely redesign/rebuild it doing much of the work ourselves.  It's a new adventure, a challenge, but most of all it will afford us the ability to do more, live more, and get out and see more.   We are really craving that and although giving up our "little cottage" is a bit sad, we know that whoever buys it will be getting a very loved and beautiful home.

Without giving too much picture detail....here are the new (hopefully!) digs:

I will post a link to the little cottage listing once it is up on the HAR.com site.  We are feeling pretty relaxed about our decision.  It's time and we are ready, and if it's meant to happen it will all fall into place easily.

Here's to creating a smaller, simpler home!  Oh, and just for fun, does anyone want to take some bets on how long it takes us to sell?  I'm thinking there could be a fun prize for the person who guesses correctly.  Leave your guesses in the comments section.

  18. Just found your blog and so happy I did! I'll be following along with this next adventure. I'm a Texan also, born and raised. I'm in the DFW area although my Dad and step-mother & an aunt and uncle lived in Houston for eons. Spent a lot of time there as well as Galveston and South Padre.

My daughter & son-in-law's home sold before it was listed ~ first offer and more than they thought they would get. I'm going to say you'll have a contract within 48 hours! :)
