Making due...

Our home was built four years ago, and it although it is a new home- it does not reflect my style in every room.  Namely, the bathroom.

When we were building, one of the upgrades ($700) was for the bathroom cabinets.  The builder tried to sell it to us by explaining that these would match the kitchen cabinets and not just be "builder grade white" cabinets.  Well, I knew I would wind up painting my cabinets and did not take the upgrade because I thought I would just end up painting the bathroom ones anyway....

What I wasn't told was that the upgraded ones were taller.  Ugh.  Mine are urinal height for my husband.  I"m short, but even for me these cabinets are short.  And white, and just builder grade meh.

So I skirted them to hide the not so pretty white builder grade cabinets.  The height was out of my control.

Along with adding the skirting I set a mirror against the existing mirror to break it all up.  I have since changed it out for this mirror:

A few other touches like the ASCP graphite painted doors and some art work have helped to put our own style into the space until we can do a complete overhaul on it.

So the moral of this story is:  Don't be afraid to take a space (even a newly built one) and put your style into it :)

  2. So true! And why on earth would they suggest to match your bathroom cabinets to the kitchen ones?!!

    1. Weird, no idea. It was a bizarre building experience. The "decorators" at the home finishes place didn't even know what honed granite was. I was caught doing a palm to forehead slap more than just once...
