Someone asked me yesterday where I saw my business going. It's something I think about, but quite honestly, I don't know the answer.
When I quit teaching my husband told me to take some time off and to take it easy. (despite being married for 13 years he still doesn't know any better!) Instead I did what I do. I stayed busy. The occasional painting job turned into a steady stream of jobs, the offers from companies to write about their products or try their products started coming in, consult appointments booked up- and before I knew it I was a full time furniture painter.
One of the things I have never gotten into is all the power blogging. I post when I feel like it, not on a schedule. I don't use Twitter and Facebook to strategically promote my blog, and I don't attend blogging conferences. I just write when I want to say something.
I've found an awesome on line community of bloggers on Facebook who have a lot to say about stats, blog feeds, strategically timed Facebook and Twitter updates....all good, but just not me.
I guess I'm more of a recreational blogger. Why do you blog?

My blog is about my weight-loss journey so I blog for accountability. When I'm missing for a while, it probably means up I'm to no good. ;)

This made my morning! I love the honesty....so going to read your blog :)
DeleteI am like you. I only blog when I have something to say. I have little to say obviously. lol Also if I want to share something that has been encouraging/inspiring to me and may be to others. I am not a share everything I know or do kind of person. I do enjoy reading whenever you post though. Jus sayin. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy. I've tried doing the super blogger thing- it's flippin exhausting! I'm just not that perky or crafty!
DeleteI found blogging when I was on bed rest exactly a year ago. I had to keep my mind occupied or I knew I'd go nuts. Blogging reading and writing kept me sane for 8 weeks. Now I blog when I feel moved. Sometimes once a month.. sometimes more.
ReplyDeleteI blog for me :-)
Hugs, Gee
Gee- That is such a lovely answer. You blog for YOU! Love it :)
DeleteI discovered blog a little over two years ago. I'm a follower of many but I don't have my own blog. I wish I did but I haven't taken the plunge. If I did blog I think I would probably blog only when I felt like saying something. I have a Facebook account and I have friends that post what seems like every second. Me I post when something inspires me. I'm happy you blog because I really do enjoy reading what you have to say.
ReplyDeleteMichelle- I think you would love having your own blog. It's hard not to look at others and compare or compete- but staying true to your reason for doing it really helps!
DeleteI need an outlet for my creative energy and for connecting with others. It seems to me that if I don't blog everyday and visit a lot of blogs, I don't get a lot of traffic or comments on my blog. Which is kind of lonely...
ReplyDeleteYeah, it can be- but I hate attaching work to something I enjoy. I try to visit blogs when I can, which is not often here lately. My family comes first, so this little blog gets the scraps ;)
DeleteI love your blog and that you do so recreationally. I blog because I love to chat and share and it is fun. To monetize it would be hard I think!
ReplyDeleteI agree! Again, making it more of a job than an outlet!
DeleteYes, I am the same way.
ReplyDeleteI started blogging to put
my thoughts into words
and to connect with like-
minded people. It's been
an amazing ride. I do not
advertise but because I
don't want that pressure
to be churning out posts.
I feel fortunate not to have
to do that....
So excited to be one of your
Snapstagram winners! Thank
you again for such a lovely
giveaway!
Happy Friday,
xo Suzanne
I cannot wait to see what you choose from Snapstagram! They are such a lovely company and still small enough to be personable.
DeleteMe, I had just moved to Las Vegas and loved the open blue sky, with stripes from airplanes or little clouds. I started taking photos of the sky and wanted to share.
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures :)
DeleteI'm with you.. I blog when I can and want to. I don't know how some of the folks I follow do it. They write every single day. Even when I used to do a diary which was a long time ago I didn't write every day.
