The wood on this piece is maple, very soft- so I did some sanding on the top...
My favourite method of sanding is to start with an 80 grit paper, then work my way up to 220 grit- wiping it down with a tack cloth in-between progressing up in grit #'s. Then I take a damp cloth and gently wipe the top down to bring up the grain- then fine sand it one more time.
The the piece was ready to stain- light grey with a clear wax finish. I am so happy that the mom to be loves her piece. It coordinates so well with her nursery design.
