Spread the word to end the word...

Today is awareness day!  Spread the word to end the 'r' word- something that is near and dear to my heart...

I read a blog post this morning by a mom who explained why the 'r' word is offensive, and she said it better than I ever could have.  Believe me when I tell you that her post is worth clicking over to and spending a few minutes to read.

Go here to read her post on why you should spread the word to end the word.

Then go HERE to take the pledge.

Sara and I thank you!

  1. I must say that it was sooooo worth the reading. I have tweeted it, blogged it and shared on my FB. How horrible people can be sometimes without thinking. Just like saying "It's gay!" Our words do matter and do count. Thank you for sharing.

    1. I feel the same way about that expression as well. Words count!! Once they are 'out there' then they cannot be retrieved.

  2. I didn't know about this day but just ran over to post it on Facebook!! Here's a short story for you...one of my students from 2 years ago is so brave. She will very definitely stop someone in their tracks if the use the r word. She's not afraid of anyone...I just love that about her. :)

  3. That was a wonderful post. I will not allowed my students to use the D-word in class. This post was helpful and gave me some tools to use when I explain to them why it's not okay!

  5. I don't even need to read it. I correct anyone that ever says it. I have a son that qualifies and I hate the word as well.

  6. Unfortunately the unnice ones that always think it aren't the ones that will read about it.
