Making a kitchen cabinet more functional...

My husband works shift work- a crazy schedule to say the least, but one that affords him one week off per month.  Sometimes they call him in to work a bit of overtime, but most of the time he finds himself home and a little bored.

He's a bit on the handy side if y'all hadn't noticed ; o )  So Travis bored can be a really productive thing around here.

  Last week was no exception.

I had been complaining about my narrow cabinet to the right of the stove.  The one I use to store pots and pans:

Getting pots and pans in and out of this thing is ridiculous.  Whomever is responsible for designing this type of cabinet should be smacked.  Hard.  Twice.

So handy hubby got to thinking... (I love it when he gets to thinking!)

First he emptied the cabinet and removed the shelf:

Then he installed slider rails on both sides of the cabinet:

Then he built this tri-leveled box thingy to slide in and out of the cabinet:

The only exterior woodwork that had to be done was the attaching of the center wood piece to the cabinet so that when it closed there wouldn't be a gap where the cabinets meet.

Problem solved!  Now I can get my pots and pans in and out of the cabinet without banging the sides of the cabinet and exposing my family to some sailor worthy swearing ; o )
