Our daughter Anne is a beach girl at heart.  Summers will find her in bathing suits no matter what she is doing.  Remember the movie Mermaids?  She has always been that kid with a love of anything water/beach/sand related.  Jimmy Buffet is always on her i-pod and she catagorizes her flip-flops from beachy to dressy.
When it came time to decorate her room she knew what she wanted.  Short of hauling in sand and water we tried to make the room as "Florida Keys" as possible, but with subtle colours.  So hubby went to work and built her a platform bed with hidden drawers to house electronics plug & power strip, bookcase and storage tower for all of her snowglobes, seashells & stuff.  One of the things my husband does that I just love is sign every piece of furniture he makes with a message and the date.   The furniture is painted in SW's Honeydew, the walls are SW's Seashell with a random blue I picked for the ceilings.  The chandy is an e-bay find.  The flamingos move about our backyard depending on their mood...
So there you have it- a beachy girl's cottage room.

  1. You must have read my last comment on your son's room! Love this - I think a platform bed with the shelves may be the solution I'm looking for to reduce the amount of furniture in her room (i.e. platform with shelves substitutes for a side table). Thanks for sharing this!!!

  3. Nice room, but does she live in it - much too neat for a teen ager.
