Master bathroom...

Our master bathroom is 4x8.  Yep, 4x8.  In Texas the trend in newer homes is that you have master bathrooms large enough to host a dinner party in them.  I'm not even kidding.  

Back in 1971 when this Nasa community was established they let the same engineers who designed the rockets design the bathrooms of the town homes we live in.  I am kidding.  Sort of.

Light is an outdoor lantern from Home Depot...

White subway tile with grey grout, floor tile is small octagons...

 I never could find a mirror I loved, but instead I found this tray/mirror that I loved.  It works perfectly for this tiny space...

 We also could not find a vanity that we liked at a price we wanted, so Travis built the vanities for both the bathrooms...

 I love how the tile looks next to the wood floors...

Here is the breakdown of what we spent on this tiny master remodel.  We did save some money by doing the plumbing and drywall ourselves...

Measure once...

Design twice.

I tend to draw out designs for things without giving too much thought to exact measurements.  I'm not a math person, I am a paint and material choice person.  So my design plans can be frustrating for Travis- who IS a math person.

We went yesterday to chose our materials for the new tiny kitchen, then we met our realtor and flooring contractor over at the town house.

Flooring contractor thinks we should go with wood floors, not laminate.  Ugh.  Back to the showroom.

Kitchen is waaaay smaller than I originally thought.  I was factoring a true 12 by 9 space, when in fact you can knock a few feet off each side when cabinets come into play.  Yeah, mathy be I.

So here is the new design...

The very narrow wall on the right is the pantry cabinet.  It will be six inches deep.  Enough to accommodate cans and sideways cereal containers.  The goal is to keep it uncluttered.  The large square on the bottom left is the farmhouse sink.  It's the biggest thing in the room, but I have found over the years that my biggest complaint in any kitchen we have had is that the sink is too small, plus it makes for a lovely spot  to bathe the doxies ;)   The dishwasher is to the left of the kitchen sink.

The fridge is the large square on the top left- we are opting for a industrial look fridge only appliance.  Ice and freezer will be in the laundry room. This will help conserve space in the tiny kitchen, and really we are not big on freezer use anyway.  Think fresh!

The stove will be a 30" electric stove.  Yeah, no gas hook ups to these old homes.

Also, no upper cabinets.  There will be open shelving on either side of the sink/window.   That will hold our plates and cups.  The rest of the storage will be below and we are thinking of hanging the pots on hooks on the wall to the left of the stove and right of the fridge.   The coffee station will be to the left of the pantry and right of the stove.  I will probably add a shelf to hold coffee cups above it.

Just outside of the kitchen entry is a large coat closet.  The counter space in this kitchen is at a premium, so very little will be on the counters. In the coat closet are going to build shelves in it to hold all of the extra small appliances that we do not use on a daily basis.  This is Texas, who has coats anyway?  However, I will be giving some of the counter space real estate up for my large butcher's scale.  Because, scale.  Love.  Need?  Yep.

I also purchased these two books.  I love that the author's philosophy of quality trumping quantity.  Picking out expensive countertops doesn't feel as guilt inducing when you are only shopping for very small counters...
