An answer...

I go to see the surgeon at 3:15 today. The results of my biopsy have been in since Wednesday, but he will not give them to me over the phone. (Breast center does do that-he won't)

I'm going to ask him if this is the same standard of care he would give his mother.

I'll be sure to throw that question in AFTER I get my results.

The waiting game...

I called my surgeon yesterday to check if maybe, just maybe my pathology report was back.

It wasn't. What I did find out is that their office scheduled my one week post-op appointment for two weeks out from my surgery. I changed that to this Friday, and then inquired about checking daily for my path report. Not only will they not tell me my results over the phone, but they will not even tell me if the reports are in. Which means when I show up on Friday I may or may not find out on that day if I have breast cancer. And here I was totally thinking I would take a half day for my appointment and go back to work. I've been pretty stoic during this, but finding out I have breast cancer and then going back to teach would even surpass what I'm capable of pulling off acting wise.

I did have some doctor luck, MD Anderson Cancer Center called me back and I have a tentative appointment with an oncologist just in case those pathology reports come back with the results that were expected. The woman who is my coordinator is fabulous and I am super impressed with how they handle things. The surgeon? Not so much so.

Dr.Sister called me and I told her about my "findings". She is amazed that this is the level of care from the surgeon and told me to ask him if it's the same standard of care he would give his mother, sister, or daughter. She uses that line with her residents- and it totally works. It's amazing how your job performance goes up when you picture the person you are doing work for as your blood relative.

I have been battling a sinus infection for almost two weeks now. I woke up this morning thinking my nose was running, only to get to the kleenex box and find it was blood. So making that appointment for after school today. There's a z-pack out there with my name on it.

On the other side...

Yesterday was my biopsy. It was a surreal experience to say the least. Dr.Sister flew in to be with me, and was amazing in how she got me through it. We don't see each other enough, or talk every day, but we fell into our old joking manner the moment we saw each other. She calmed me when even the valium they gave me didn't.

I scheduled an appointment with the oncologist- just in case, but I'm hoping to have to cancel that appointment. I should have my biopsy path report in 5-7 days.

So much for optimism...

I went last Thursday to see the surgeon who pretty much told me that no, I cannot just wait a few months and re-mammogram because more than likely these sub-centimeter cysts are malignant.

So much for being optomistic on the benign front.

I spent the weekend sleeping ( a lot) and drinking my fair share of wine. I think they call that processing in some circles. I call it a teensy pity party minus the confetti. No worries though, I'm sure there will be confetti somewhere down this new unchartered road.

Next step will be the insertion of the wire guide and the extraction biopsy on the 30th- and I'm pretty sure they will NOT have wine.

But one can hope...
