I've wanted to paint one of these since seeing Miss.Mustard Seed's version of the Union Jack dresser....so today I gave it a go!
So there you have it- my version of the Union Jack Dresser. I'm not sure I would tackle this design again. The flag is a bit complicated to tape out, and after a brief Internet search and some reading I discovered that it was not symmetrical like I first thought. I am so thankful to have a mathy/handy husband who was willing to do the measuring and taping for me : o )
This was after all the taping and painting....thank goodness I have a mathy husband! |
And after antiquing wax and some distressing.... |
I kept the original hardware since it had a kinda cool patina. |
I sanded down the top of this piece (maple) and then applied a Walnut stain and poly coat. |

Great job! Love this so much! I am such a fan of The Union Jack. I love the toned downed colors. I have the perfect piece for this project. Really need to dive in and do it!!!!! I think the original hardware looks great!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! That had to be a lot of work, but worth it! The colors you used are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI have also wanted to paint one of these for a long time and I love Miss Mustard Seed's dresser but yours is just as awesome! You've inspired me to tackle one of these. It turned out really cool. Thanks for linking up at Doodles & Stitches :)
