On second thought...

We had the inspection yesterday for the farmhouse.  I wasn't even fifteen minutes into it with the inspector when I text Travis:

*Run, Forrest, run...

I'm not going to go into the details, but it was so much more than what we wanted to fix up.  Our goal is to have more money to do more with, not have more money to sink into another house.  So we withdrew our bid.

Oddly enough, the town house is still available, which was the first house we were looking at.

So we are putting in a bid on it today.

This story has so many twists and turns.  I'm not sure who is still following me on this one.  All I know is we are weeks away from leaving this house with no where to go.  (well, that is not entirely true, we have my sweet parents house and will be staying there while we get the town house, or whatever house, ready to move into!)

This process is a bit exhausting.  Not complaining though- it's our choice and we are excited to see where we land :)

I'll keep you posted...

  2. Well it is kind of sad to see one dream end, but it is good that you are realistic about what you want to spend your time and money on. I thought the townhouse looked like it had lots of character. I haven't talked about it on my blog yet, but we are in the process of buying a new home and there have been lots of twists and turns and uncertainty and excitement. It seems to be the nature of the beast.

    1. Especially our market- it's crazy! Houses go up and are snatched up so quickly. We are trying to stay very realistic- I want to keep to our original plan. Travel and DO more :) Good luck with your sale/purchase/move!

  3. I really love your blog and am very excited to see what you will do with an older property whether the townhouse or something else. Best part is that you are not letting the emotional decision over take the financial decision. That seems really smart to me.

    1. Thank you, I know that whichever property we buy we can make it our own. I know that if I have my family with me it will be perfect :)

  4. A home is what you bring to it. No matter where you settle you will make it cozy. My son and his family just bought a home that was close to 50 . It was beautiful inside and passed inspections. So much has gone wrong. So run if you must and stick to your wishes.

  6. We went thru this very thing a bit more than a year ago....it is exhausting, makes you second guess yourself. BUT eventually it helps you narrow down and really create the place you want to dwell. We have no regrets now, but by did we take a few rabbit trails....which included our 'dream' cottage turning into a nightmare in about the same 15 minutes with our contractor. :) Deja vu!

  7. Oh darn on the farmhouse. Sorry to hear that. It's disappointing but we will believe something better is on the way. We can still be excited :)
