What, where & who...

I decided to put together a few frequently asked questions regarding paint choices and items in our cottage...

Q-What colour paint are your doors?

A- The doors are painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite and then clear waxed.  They have held up beautifully over the years.  This is our second home to have painted doors and I can't imagine going back to plain white ones!  The walls are painted in Sherwin Williams Moderate White.

Q- What material/who made your bed pillow shams?

A- Jill, of Sew A Fine Seam, made our shams.  She was a dream to work with and it was all communicated via email.  This girl has mad skills and I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone looking to add some beauty to your home.  The shams are made using painter's drop cloth material and trimmed in Blue Artissimo fabric.  The lumbar pillow cover is from Pottery Barn outlet.

Q- Where did you get THE pig over your stove?

A- The pig is from a discount store called Tuesday Morning.  I found it by accident.  It was shoved under some other stuff on a shelf and I paid $14 for it.  I get comments on it all the time, and that little pig over the stove makes me want bacon...

Q- How old are your kids?

A- Sara is 21, David is 19, Anne is 16 and Hunter aka "Bear" is 12.  They are all very creative people, and I love that I am getting to know them as young adults.   This stage of parenting is difficult in some ways, but so much fun in other ways.

Q- Is it hard to raise a child with Down Syndrome?

A- No harder than raising any other kid.  Sure she has her "special needs" in regard to therapies, health, schooling and such, but overall she has been such a joy to raise.  No matter how bad of a day you are having, a hug or smile from Sara can make it all seem better.  We are huge advocates for ending the use of the R word.  You can learn more about taking the pledge here.

Q- Where did you get the maps you used to paper your entry ceiling?

The maps belonged to my dad.  When he sold the boat he gave them to me.  I wanted to do something creative with them, so up on the ceiling they went.  I love that I can see where he charted our trips :)
You can find similar ones here.

Q- Who made your kitchen chair slipcovers?

A- Laura Siebert of LSSlipcovers.  She did an amazing job using my go to fabric of painter's drop cloths and throwing in a bit of glitz and trim just for fun.  She is here in Houston and just opened a new shop!

If you have any other questions about things I have used decorating or any other questions, please feel free to leave a comment and I will answer  :)

PS- The library project?  The one that has been going on for almost a year now?  Yeah, well....it is *this* close to being finished!  The shelves are being trimmed out, pooky and sanding will start soon and then....paint!  So excited to show you how this is progressing and put some "after" photos up in the next few weeks!

  1. Your blog is one of my go to blogs when I need inspiration with decorating. I love decorating using things with a story. The maps on the ceiling is very clever. Jill does have made sewing skills. I saw one of her pouffs on line and had to have one. She is so easy to work with. I just adore my pouff.
Can't wait to see the finished library.

    1. Chalk paint is so easy to work with too. If you do get a scratch you can touch up and wax and no one is the wiser ;)
