The moose a muffin effect...

Have any of y'all read the book If You Give a Moose a Muffin?

Sums up my decorating strategies to a "t".

You see, if I add one thing to my cottage it throws off the balance of practically everything and forces me to move things.

The giant clock over our mantel?

To the left of it used to be our grandmother clock....she had to move because really, why would there be two clocks right next to each other?  (Unless of course you are Gepetto)

If you don't recognize the clock it's because I painted it.  I painted that little table too...then sold it.

I decided to take the pictures and sign down from over our bed.  As it I was laying in our bed the other night and said, "I think I'm ready to change up this room a bit....maybe take down those pictures".  As soon as Travis hit the shower I was up there pulling pictures down.

"I see you", he said as I snuck past the shower with pictures in hand.

This always leads to what I call the "moose a muffin effect".

Google it.  I'm pretty sure it is right up there with "global warming effect".  I know this because I have met others like me.  Other people who have issues with bringing in something new, or taking something old down.  That throw their cottages into a tailspin just because of it.

So this morning I woke up and did this....

New fabric just waiting to be made into curtains...

Hello, green lily pad plates!
Went back and added our initials...
still more tweaking...

Ginormous armoire looks a bit smaller in this corner...

10 minutes later...
Moved the old screen and book wreaths out.  Put the window and Gruene sign back in...

Liking this corner a lot better....
Late afternoon sun...

So I am curious- since you read my blog and it is mostly about home decorating.....do you suffer from the moose a muffin effect too?

PS- Here is the room with the finished drapes up!

Now that the drapes are up......I think I may build a fabric covered headboard.....Moose A Muffin!

  1. I loved all those books when my kids were young! I still think "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" is the best one.

I and my wife do not suffer from the "moose a muffin" effect. Mostly because we suck at decorating so we only change things once in a blue moon. We've owned our home for over 7 years and have yet to paint the bedroom. It's still the origianl flat white paint. Why? Because my wife has not picked a color yet. And I'm in no hurry for her to decide because then I'm obligated to paint the room.

So I suppose in my home the story goes more like "If you give a moose a muffin he will look at you and ask 'What am I supposed to do with this muffin?'"

  2. loving your changes! The bed under the window is fantastic. I tend to decorate a room, 'finish' it and think I'll never change it again....it's perfection, I adore it, I'll never lay hands on it. However, I acquire a new accessory, or my needs change and I always end up changing it up. It may be a minor change or a complete re-do. In fact, I was just mulling over my daughters room that I finished a year ago. I'm thinking some fabulous wallpaper over the board and batten would kick it up a notch.... =)

    1. Like minds! Love it :) I was hesitant about putting the bed under the window- a decorating don't I think....but it's such wasted space with the bay window that I thought I'd give it a try. Can't wait to see your daughter's room tweaked!

    1. Marissa- Thank you so much! It was hard to get up this morning, not for the way it looked, but because I am wiped out from moving the furniture around yesterday!

  6. I totally suffer from the moose effect. Our oldest is home on spring break and the first day home he said"really mom you did it again you changed everything. Ya could of told me so I didn't spend 15 minutes looking for a cup." While he was gone I rearranged all of our kitchen cabinets. I'm forever changing things. If I move one thing then I need to move another and then another. It's good to know there are others that do the same thing.

I loved your bedroom before but I really love it now. The bed in front of the window looks like it was meant to be there all along.
