Next Wednesday Travis and I are going out to the new home design center. We have to choose our cabinets, countertops, flooring and everything else. I have been so into neutrals and y'all know I love anything with some black paint slapped on it. So I am trying to decide if I want dark cabinets (black) with light countertops, or light cabinets with dark countertops (leaning in this direction) and of course wood floors throughout- even in the kitchen. I'm just not a tile kinda gal. The walls will be "builders white" sort of an off white creamy colour, so I am thinking that near to black wood floors would give it a bit of a Hamptons colour scheme.
A lot of people have asked me if I am going to be sad letting go of our current home, the one that Travis and I have spent the past four years redoing. Truth be told, no I'm not. Although I am one to get attached to a house, I am also one to walk away totally excited about the next one. This house has been a lot of fun at times and a huge headache at times. The neighborhood is not what it once was (homeowner's association has really slipped) and though the inside of our home is how we want it, there is just no love on the outside. It's time to move on.
So what do y'all think about cabinet/countertop choices. Dark cabinets with light tops? Or, Light cabinets with dark tops? Also, so NOT doing the granite thing- unless they can give me some honed granite (no shine). Any opinions out there?
light cabinets dark tops... two reasons, one the light cabinets will reflect light into the room and keep it bright... kitchens need bright
ReplyDeletetwo... I have dark worktops, black glittery granite... it is beautiful and it doesn't show the mess or stains... so when you have a lazy day it still looks good.
Oooohhh... It sounds like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteMy input: light cabinets with dark counter tops. I love how airy and open light cabinets make a kitchen feel.
Enjoy the design center!!!!
Hugs!
I love both but you have to really decide about what you want. My husband and I recently built our dream home. I blog about the process and our choices in finishes if you want to take a look.
