Week three & pictures...

I am a special kind of tired this week.  A deep in your bones kind of tired.  This type of full speed renovation is not for the weak of heart.  Decisions have to be made quickly, and you really have to know what you want.  I've been super happy with all of the updates so far except for the landscaper we chose.  I can make it work, but I find it annoying to hire someone to do a job and find myself doing a lot of the work myself.

The interior painting is complete except for a few touch ups here and there.  New doors and windows will be installed in the next few weeks.  We weren't going to replace the front windows, but it became apparent that the old aluminum ones were in really bad shape and needed replacing.  We were not factoring that cost into our renovation, so it added to our "budget".

The biggest item we are on hold for is the kitchen.  We have not finalized the design yet and hope to do that this week so that we can place our cabinet order. Once ordered they take 28 days to get in.  There will be a long lull in our renovations while that happens, so we decided that once the floors go later this week, we will move our things in from the PODS and start getting the house organized. (which of course in my mind means I get to play and decorate!)

Here is what is left to do on our list:

  • finish painting upstairs, walls, trim, doors, hallway
  • install new light fixtures upstairs and downstairs
  • fix all cracks and openings in attic- blow in insulation
  • paint the railing going down the stairs
  • paint the entire downstairs including the laundry room
  • paint the fireplace
  • install new door leading to garage and front door
  • move existing exterior faucet and reroute to the atrium
  • rebuild master bathroom and putty/sand weird opening to vanity area
  • have electrician out to check kitchen wires and rewire the breaker box
  • tile laundry room
  • fix door frame for new front door (to be installed in two weeks)
  • install alarm system
  • get an exterminator out to spray
  • hang new mailbox
  • build out desk area in living room and paint
  • remove slider door and replace with double french doors and a door that the dogs can go through to get to the atrium area
  • build shelves in the entry closet to house extra kitchen small appliances
  • install pedestal sink and toilet in the downstairs 1/2 bath
  • install new light fixtures downstairs
  • build out laundry room/install sink
  • hang new exterior lights and house numbers
  • build and install exterior shutters and corbels
  • install sprinkler system in the atrium area and front beds
  • put in new water heater
  • landscape atrium and front beds
  • install new flex-pipe in laundry room and additional pipe for utility sink
  • Landscape and new front flagstone stoop

Wah, wah, wah... yeah, that is getting picked up in the next few days.  You are looking at a gutted kitchen, bathroom, and various pieces of drywall.  This is where my car is supposed to be, and all of Travis' tools.  Believe it or not, all of the work done so far has been with one wrench, a screwdriver and a small drill.  Mcgyver, I tell ya.

I will be back next week with some more pretty pictures.  Until then, follow me on Instagram for updates and lots of pictures.

  4. Good gravy Girl! You have a right to be a "special kind of tired." I am over-impressed with the speed at which you [both] work! Impressive progress. Thanks for taking us on the journey with you.
